Racing and Food

Racing here in New Hampshire is a serious sport. We are blessed to have 2 Nascar Races in Loudon, NH at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.  Well this year we went to both Races. I tell you I still prefer our September race over the heat of the July Race.

But both are great races in and of themselves.  But with the September race you know that fall has really come to the area.

Thinking about Fall makes me feel the need to start “nesting” for the winter. I think ahead to all the storms and cold and wonder how bad it will be this year.

I always have a big plan to get all this food canned and then get disappointed when I haven’t found anyone who can really teach me to can properly. So this year I started to not feel so bad when I kept reading articles that reminded me of other ways to preserve food. Canning is not the only way to do it. Although one of these years I will learn and I promise to come up with a great way to share it with you wonderful people.  Which would you prefer to have it? Do you want Video demonstrations or just typed directions or both? Let me know.

Well the idea of just freezing your food keeps coming up. It is often one of the last ways to preserve food as it considered an expensive alternative.  The reasoning for this is the fact that you are paying a monthly bill to the electric company to keep the power going to the freezer.  If that power was out  then the freezer would defrost and you could potentially lose your food.

Well I have decided to risk it. With any calculated risk you have to have back up plans. So in the upcoming Series Home Independence Challenge, there will be ideas on how to preserve your food if you have a power outage.

I look forward to sharing this with you.
