We have added 4 hens and 1 rooster to our lives. But so many people have said that you aren't frugal if you add chickens, because of the costs.

Keeping chickens can encourage frugality in several ways:

1. **Egg Production**: Chickens lay eggs regularly, which can reduce your grocery bill. Fresh, home-produced eggs are often more affordable than store-bought ones.

2. **Food Scraps**: Chickens can eat a variety of kitchen scraps and leftovers, which helps reduce food waste and lowers your overall food expenses.

3. **Composting**: Chicken droppings can be composted to create nutrient-rich fertilizer for your garden, potentially reducing the need for store-bought fertilizers.

4. **Pest Control**: Chickens help manage pests like insects and weeds in your garden, potentially lowering the need for chemical treatments and reducing gardening costs.

5. **Self-Reliance**: Raising chickens can foster a do-it-yourself mindset, encouraging you to be more resourceful and make the most of what you have.

Overall, the combination of reduced grocery bills, less waste, and lower garden costs can contribute to a more frugal lifestyle.

What do we do now?

I had taken a break from Blogging because I felt that I was burnt out and had nothing to offer you dear readers. But while talking with a friend, she reminded me of all the knowledge that I had. This knowledge is very useful to others, especially in our current times.

Any time you open your phone or any other device all we hear is noise.

  •  Biden vs Trump,
  • Shooting at rallies,
  •  The price of everything going up

Then you stop and think about how it is effecting you and your family. The price of gas is rising so you aren't able to some of the things you had planned for summer vacation. You try to stay home more as to not use extra gas. Then don't get me started on how much it is costing to just buy food, not even fancy food, just basic staples.

Rents are rising again and people aren't finding housing in the price range they can afford. Basically it is getting really hard to live in this country. But this is our country and we need to take a deep breathe and think. We are strong and resilient, we can do this.  Over the years many families have struggled and they found ways to make things work. Now is the time for us to roll up our sleeves and do the hard work. But one blessing we have now that they didn't before is Technology. So lets use all the resources that we have and care for our families in the very best of ways.

I plan on taking you through my life and showing you ways that I am able to care for my family. Now don't think we make 6 figures, we are both on Social Security due to disabilities. So Frugality is a necessary way of life for us. We have found different ways to save money and make it stretch that goes beyond the usual idea of not buying coffee out etc.

Come join us on our journey to help each other in this unstable world.  Don't forget to join us on Facebook too!

Week 1 of 52, 2024 Edition

So we have arrived at the end of our first full week of January. Can you believe it? I certainly can't that is for sure.  I have been focusing on making some big plans and real goals for this year.

We are currently looking for our forever place. With all the unrest in the world I want to find our Safe haven. Where we can take care of our family and friends. I am not looking for hundreds of acres or giant barns. I want to have a small place that we can make ours and I want to bring you on our journey. I find if you write down your goals that you are more likely to accomplish them. I am looking to be held accountable for my plans, not just dream about them. So here is my goals for 2024.

GOALS FOR 2024

  • Make $25/day for 5 days a week.
  • Meal Plan on 2 week rotations
  • Reduce Grocery Bill to $300 month
  • Remove 5 items a week from my home to declutter
  • Save $100/month for Christmas by November
  • Post Blog Articles twice a week

I wanted to be very clear and honest about how we live our lives and wanted to share this journey with us. I hope you will come with us as we explore our new world.

Enough Already

Hello Everyone and Happy 2024. As I am sure by now everyone has seen the ads by all their favorite blogs or pages that are talking about New Year's Challenges. Some of these are to save money, or learning to be more self sufficient .

I have seen many that are Savings or Pay off Debt challenges. With the economy acting the way it is I can absolutely understand why tons of people are jumping on these.

I also want to save a significant amount of money this year because we have some big events happening.  But what do you do when you are living on a fixed income and don't have the opportunities to work an extra shift to make money? You need to start thinking outside of the usual box.

You will hear the usual things like :

*cut your expenses,

*use coupons,

*sell unused items from around the house

and things like that. I have to agree that they are great ideas but sometimes you have to think outside the box. I am not a financial guru or anything like that. I am just an average woman, who is a Mom, a Grandmother, and a Wife trying to survive.

I will post my own weekly goals and show you how I made them happen. Perhaps this will help to guide you on your own journey.
