Looking ahead to winter already

It is hard to believe that I am really looking ahead to winter and it is only beginning of September. I am sure many of you remember the story of the Ant and the Grasshopper. If not then take a look at the story.

Its about being prepared, “IT IS BEST TO PREPARE FOR THE DAYS OF NECESSITY.”

How many of us wait til the last minute for many things? Go ahead, Raise your hands. I know that I am one of you too. I keep saying I am gonna make a list, etc but somehow it always comes down til the night before or the morning of and I am scrambling.

In a homestead it pays to plan ahead. It could literally save you hundreds of dollars. I am already starting to plan next years garden. I don't want to have to buy plants, I want to grow my own. I am changing the way that I have traditionally done it. I am going to use a Raised Bed planting method. The ground up here in New Hampshire tends to be rocky and that can make it really hard to get plants to grow.

I am planning on devoting some seriously research and planning time to figuring this whole thing out and how I am going to make it work for our family. The crop that will be coming from this garden is going to play a large part in the Home Independence Challenge for our family. I hope that you will join us.
