Hello Everyone,
So many things have happened since the last blog post. We have moved into a new house, started a really nice stockpile and I am getting ready for my garden. I have seeds started a happily growing in the basement. This house once had some lovely flower beds but over time they died. So for this year I am turning one of them into a veggie garden. I am going to have my large plot up at my mother in laws house so that I can share it with them too.
With the new house I had the idea of starting my own seeds. I figured that for about $1 per package I could get some great plants. Well the first time around I planted Broccoli, Cauliflower, Spinach. Everything started out great and then I forgot to get a plant light and well you can figure out what happened from there. :(
So last week I got back on the bandwagon and started squash, many different kinds, beans and cucumbers. I have carrots, onions, and corn to go right into the ground if this blasted rain ever stops. I cleaned out the original seeds that didn't make it and I am going to re-start them too. I have learned that no matter what even if it fails the first time you have to try again. Where would we have been if all those homesteaders that moved out west to settle our great country just gave up the first time that things didn't go right?
We have increased our chicken flock from 11 hens & 1 rooster to 36 hens and 1 rooster. Well we are starting to see the "new" ladies laying eggs. I was hoping to have more of them producing at this point but it has only been a week and a half since we got our pullets. Most of that time it has been raining so I am hoping for some sunshine so these guys can get outside and be happy.
